Teaching Ecological Mismatches

Teach students how climate change can lead to ecological mismatches using materials contributed by Dr. Pamela Hanratty and Dr. Emma Oschrin at Indiana University. Recommended for classes participating in our Phenology and Climate or Pollinators and Climate projects.

Materials include:

Spring Forward Reading

  • This 2004 Scientific American article by Daniel Grossman describes how climate change is disrupting relationships between interdependent species in many ecosystems.

Assessment Questions

  • This assignment includes questions to encourage reflection and assess student understanding of the reading.

Note: See also 'Climage Change Disrupts Bees Pollination of Flowers' by Damian Carrington for an article focused on pollinators. It summarizes research by Robbirt et al., 2014.
